Do I need the phone to be on all the time?
Phone operation
SMS (Android phones)
For our standard SMS gateway on Android phones:
The phone should be turned on continuously, and the SMS‑Gateway app must be running, for messages to send and receive reliably.
If the phone is turned off or the app is paused, SMS messages may fail to send or receive correctly.
We do not recommend keeping the phone permanently plugged in without interruption. If you do leave it plugged in, we recommend using a timer to power‑cycle the charging (to help battery health).
For our WhatsApp product:
The phone is required only during the initial setup/connection to our system.
Once the WhatsApp account is connected to our cloud‑server setup, the phone does not need to be on or connected to the Internet for messages to continue flowing.
However, we recommend keeping the phone on (and using it for some messages) where possible — this helps maintain a more natural “footprint” of your WhatsApp usage, which in turn supports deliverability and account health.
For our iMessage product:
A Mac computer must remain powered on all the time for iMessage messages to send via our setup.
The iPhone is recommended to be on continuously as well.
The iPhone is strictly required only if a message is sent through the setup to an Android device (i.e., it defaults to sending a standard SMS green‑bubble from the iPhone). Otherwise, for iMessages to Apple devices it will go through the Mac.
Therefore:
Mac = must be on continuously
iPhone = recommended to be on continuously, required for Android‑recipient fallback
In all cases (SMS, WhatsApp, iMessage) we strongly recommend that you cycle the power on your phones and avoid leaving them permanently plugged in 24/7 without interruption.
Use a timer or schedule to periodically power off the device or disconnect from charging to help preserve battery life.
Please see the appropriate installation instructions for full details and correct setup.
