Unsubscribe To SMS
Unsubscribe to SMS Workflow
🎯 Purpose:
To stay compliant and respectful of customer preferences by automatically marking contacts as DND (Do Not Disturb) when they reply with unsubscribe keywords like “STOP”.
🧠 Background (Why This Matters)
Compliance with SMS regulations is a must 📜 — especially when it comes to opt-outs.
When someone replies "STOP" or any variation like “unsubscribe,” you need to immediately mark them as DND for SMS to prevent any future messages. Ignoring this can lead to spam reports, bad brand reputation, or worse — carrier penalties.
This workflow makes sure you're covered ✅
🛠️ Prerequisites
✔️ myCRMSIM snapshot installed
✔️ Access to workflows + trigger settings in your HighLevel account
✔️ Clear understanding of the terms people might use to opt out
✅ Step-by-Step Instructions
In the Unsubscribe from SMS Workflow, locate the trigger step.
Set trigger to:
Customer Replied → SMS → Exact Match Phrase = "STOP"
💬 This is the most common and expected unsubscribe keyword.
To cover more bases:
🔁 Duplicate this trigger and set more phrases:
unsubscribe
cancel
quit
remove
end
(even profanity, if you want to proactively stop angry contacts)
🧠 For profanity or partial matches, change trigger type to “Contains Phrase” instead of “Exact Match.”
Once a message with one of your unsubscribe keywords is received:
✍️ Adds a note to the contact:
“Customer replied with STOP – marked as DND.”
🚫 Sets DND for SMS:
Prevents any future texts from being sent via automation or manually.
📌 You can also modify the workflow to set DND for Email or Calls if you want a full opt-out.
⚙️ Settings Recap
✔️ Trigger: Customer replies with exact or contains phrase
✔️ Response: Note + DND on SMS
✔️ Optional: Add more keywords or channels (Email, Call) to DND
✔️ Can duplicate triggers to cover different language and context
📢 Final Notes
‣ This is one of the simplest yet most critical workflows to have running
‣ It ensures you're legally compliant and customer-respectful 🙏
‣ Review your campaign messages and make sure they clearly instruct people to reply “STOP” to opt out
‣ Test this by replying “STOP” to a message from your account and confirming DND is activated
🙌 Pro Tip
Include opt-out instructions like “Reply STOP to unsubscribe” at the bottom of all outbound SMS campaigns — this increases trust and keeps your delivery rates high 📈
